Description:
A frame up rebuild of a previous road car turned this car into a purpose built Historic
Production Race Car. The regulations used were the competition rules from VARAC,
the Vintage Automobile Racing Association of Canada. It is a fully race prepared
competition car.
History
The Lotus Europa S2 or Type 54 is the second interation of the classic mid-engined coupe.
The S2 shared the Renault engine and transaxle of the Series I car, with a bodyshell featuring
improved headroom and headlight height to meet safety standards. Also abandoned was the Series
1 practice of bonding the body and chassis together, making for a much more serviceable vehicle.
While the later Lotus twincam Europas are often favored the all-aluminum Renault 1565 crossflow
engines can produce near
twincam power levels with an engine weighing 100 lbs less in a car several hundred pounds lighter.
