Vintage Racing - Victress C2 Coupe (1957)
Description:
This 1957 ‘Victress C2 Coupe’ was built in Los Angeles Ca. by the Victress Manufacturing Co. as one of a number of car designs they made including the Coupe and Roadsters between 1953 and 1964.
Designed by Merrell Powell 1n 1953 and first sold in 1954, approximately 40 C2 Coupes were built. Available as body only, body on frame and semi complete cars most were Triumph/MG based or custom frame with 4, 6 or V8 engines. This C2 is registered as a 1957 Serial No. DRF121112.
Found as a Barn Find car in Southern California it has been ‘Period Correct’ restored to close to original condition and raced on the West Coast including The Monterey Historic Reunion.
It has a VARA Log Book and will be recognized by most vintage racing clubs including SVRA, SCCA, HRG, SRG, HMSA, CSRG, VR and would run in the GT Class of the time period.
SPECIFICATIONS
Frame:- The frame is a rectangular steel tubing with a integral roll hoop and braces forming a roll cage.
Body:- The body is made of hand laid up mat fiberglass with aluminum floor pan, rear deck, center console and fire wall.
Suspension:- The suspension is period correct using Jaguar Mk-1 Saloon (1957) components, independent front suspension, solid rear axle with 4 link trailing arms and Watts link, coil over shocks and front and rear torsion bars. Steering is a Jaguar Rack and Pinion set up.
Brakes:- The brakes are 4 wheel Jaguar solid rotor discs with Dunlop calipers 2 1/8” rear and 2 ½” front using semi-metallic racing pads. The front and rear brake master cylinders are Girling.
Engine:- The engine is a Lesco built fully Blue Printed and Balanced small block Chevy 283/301 bored .030”over, steel crank, JE forged pistons, Eagle H-Beam rods. The heads are Dual Hump Camel Back cast iron Chevy (Dart) with Manley Stainless Steel valves, Isky dual racing springs and Isky HP Keepers and Retainers. Cam is a custom grind Dema Elgin flat tappet with Isky solid lifters and piddle lube holes. Crower roller rockers with and extra set of Isky stamped steel rockers. The engine has a modified Prime Oiling oiling system with Mellings high volume pump and 9 quarts baffles oil pan. All bolts used in the engine including the head bolts are from ARP.
Intake & Carb’s:- The aluminum intake manifold is a Mickey Thompson ‘Cross Ram’ 2X4 setup with twin (2) Holley 360 CFM carbs. The intake has been port matched to the heads.
Transmission & Clutch:- Borg Warner T-10 (aluminum case) close ratio 4 speed with Hurstshifter. The clutch is a Tilton tripple disc and pressure plates with a Howe hydraulic throw out bearing and Girling hydraulic master cylinder.
Rear End:- The rear end and differential are from a Jaguar Mk-1 Saloon with a 4 link trailing arm and Watts link set up using QC coil over shocks/springs. The ring and pinion are Jaguar 4.11 to 1 gear ratio and Salisbury limited slip differential.
Wheels & Tires:- Two sets (8 total) Halibrand (replica) aluminum 5 bolt wheels with Dunlop 600x15 ‘L Series’ tires as required by some racing organizations for vintage events.
Other:- Wood dash with leather type covering, Stewart-Warner instruments including Speedometer, Tach, Oil Pressure, Fuel Pressure, Water and Oil Temperature gauges. Electrical control panel and switches for lights, O2 air fuel ratio meters for both banks. Brake lights and foul weather rear flashing light. Fully wired and fused circuits (head lights installed but not connected). 22 Gallon ‘Fuel Safe’ gas steel gas tank with new bladder installed in 2022. ‘Fire Safe’ halon fire suppression system installed. Aluminum radiator with two electric fans. Electric fuel pump and gauge with large in line fuel filter. High volume aluminum water pump and Silicone water hoses and fuel lines with AN fittings. Mallory dual point distributor and plug wires and MSD ignition coil set up. Five point seat belt for both seats.
Windshield:- Front windshield and rear glass is coated Plexiglas like material by ‘Shield’ and NASCAR/SCCA approved usage, very clear and scratch resistant.
Exhaust:- The exhaust system (side mounted on each side are length tuned going into a merge collector and 3” OD coated side pipes. Two systems come with the car, one straight pipe and the other with Glass Pack mufflers.
Other:- Comes with a South Carolina (clean) Title and Historic Plates as well as a copy of a earlier California Title in my name so is street legal. Also has copies of earlier title and owners (in the Santa Barbra Ca. area) going back to 1961.
