Description:

With the help of Stuart Moore Racing and Taylor Racing all mechanical components of the car are new or like new condition. Some additions have been made to make the car safer and meet requirements of the Midwestern Racing Council.Engine was refreshed by Loynings in California prior to 2008. Compression and leak down tests passed. Since being restored to race ready condition it has been driven once and has approx. 20 laps at Blackhawk for mechanical check out and drivers school in 2010. Winner - Best in Class at the Concourse d Elegance at the Milwaukee Masterpiece in 2015.


History

This 1977 Formula Ford 1600 ran its first race in 1979. Starting with an SCCA Chicago Regional race on May 5, 1979. went on to race at Blackhawk, Elkart Lake, Mid-Ohio and more running its last documented SCCA sanctioned race in July 1986 as listed in the original log books. Was purchased by Chicago Bears football player #34 Walter Payton and used as a practice car to get him started in his racing career. Chassis is also #34. Walter then retired the car to race Sports 2000 class. The car was then displayed in one of his restaurants (34's in Schaumburg, IL). You may have seen it there hanging above the cash register. During a renovation the car was removed and stored until I acquired it in 2008.Performance Data
