Elfin cars were produced in Australia from 1959 to 1983 and at one stage were the largest racing car manufacturer in the southern hemisphere. They have always competed on level terms with Brabhams and Lotus. The Monos were produced from 1964 to 69 with a total of only 19 made. This model on offer was one of the last and therefore has all the final developments. It has excellent early history and a complete history is documented via the Confederation of Australian Motor Sports (FIA affiliate) paperwork. The current owner restored the car 5 years ago with no expense spared. The 1600cc Ford twin cam engine, with a new cylinder head and 48mm Webers, has been developed by the best to achieve well over 200 reliable HP, dyno sheet provided. A brand new Hewland 5 speed Mk5 with LSD transaxle was built up by Pete Smith in the UK. A total of 30 ratios are included. Many spares include painted bodywork and body moulds.Two sets of wheels and tyres. This car has enjoyed significant success, with reliability, in Australian historic events. It currently holds lap records at every circuit where it has competed including Phillip Island 1:37.1 and Eastern Creek / Sydney Motorsport Park at 1:34.9. This compares to Graham Adelman's Ferrari Dino 246 Tasman car driven by Rob Hall at 1:36.1. The car can be purchased less engine at a significant discount. Oh, and also, it is arguably one of the prettiest looking open wheelers ever!


History

Elfin Monos produced 19 models, from 1964 - 69. This one on offer has all the final developments. Original owner / driver was John Walker a famous Gold Star winning Australian champion. Complete ownership history is documented.
