Description:

Raced every year since new. Always a race car. 5 races on completed restoration. All Log books from 1976. Extensive documentation. Very competiitve, legal anywhere, Historic B Sedan. Eleven invitations to the SCCA National Championships. Originally built by Marv Thompson. Considered the fastest BS in the country during his ownership. This car set a lap record at Hallet the year before I bought it in 2003. I have talked with Marv and restored the car using a new tub to make it as it was when he built it. The new tub was dipped and put on a rotiserrire to detail everything. Everything from the original car was restored and reused. It has Hurst Airheart front calipers but the rear has been upgraded to discs. That upgrade was legal at the time but Marv ran the finned Datsun drum brakes. Some are included in the sale.

History

Marv Thompson, SCCA National Chanpion in DSR, wanted to field a car in the most competitive class in SCCA and chose the Toyota Corolla as his best chance to be competitive. He bought the original car from Wheels Toyota in Lansing Michigan and proceeded to race prepare it immediately. He had help from Dave Headley and Dick Hull. The car was developed during 1972 and in 1973, Marv won enough to be invited to the SCCA Run Offs. During his ownership, the car was argurably the fastest BS in the nation, regularly beating the Bob Sharp Datsuns. Marv sold the car when GM, the company he worked for, persuaded him to prepare a Sunbird. Marv says it was his worst decision ever to sell the Corolla. The next seven owners raced the car and were invited to the SCCA National Championships eight more times. I purchased the car after it's last trip to the Run Offs in 2003 and started an extensive restoration. I would work on the car for months then race prep and run it every year. During the last two years I have had conflicts that have made competing in the car more difficult. I hope the new owner will continue the legacy this car has.Performance Data
