1972 March 722 Formula 2 - SOLD

This is now SOLD. Search for similar items.

Description:

This car was the object of a complete restoration to concours standards which was completed in
1996. It features a Loyning prepared injected BDG 2 litre. Prepared to the highest standards
by a prep shop with a decade of Formula Atlantic experience it is a beautiful example of the
1972 F2 car as driven by Peterson and Lauda. The car is liveried like the works cars. A front
runner for the Monoposto Wings and Slicks class.

History

The all-conquering 721 was mildly updated for 1972 with a wider front track, slightly
lowered front tub to accomodate a lower chisel noze, and side rads. With one win by
Peterson the car was not as successful as the previous year's model but this was
probably due to disarray within the March organization and their foundering F1 effort.
The design is fundamentally sound and persisted
well into the decade as the basis of March's F2/Atlantic/FB offerings. The 722 is one of the last
truly pretty F2/Atlantic cars as the formula sprouted the ungainly sports car noses and
the large sidepods beginning in 1973.
This car was purchased from a Folis Jones of Virginia in 1990. The tub bore a plaque of his
own making with "Chassis #34" but this is believed to be the correct chassis number. Attempts
to further research the car's history have been unsuccessful.
