1980 March F2 Project Car - SOLD
This is now SOLD. Search for similar items.
Description:
This tub and components are what survive from what was once apparently a complete March Formula 2 car. Witness marks and
grime inside the tub are consistent with use and a car and there is a location on the side where the
original chassis plaque was originally bonded on. The tub itself is stamped 802M01 the the right side
of the cell area just below the rollover hoop. Could this have been one of the works cars?
The tub is on good condition with no damage. Almost the
entire front suspention is there with much of the bracketry for the rear and many strategic parts like
the oil tank and adapter plate.
History
Sliding skirts were banned for Formula 2 in 1980 and comparative sanity returned to the formula.
March was the dominanat maker in terms of numbers. The 802 was a neat design by Ian Reed and was
broadly based on the 792 but with side rads and a chisel nose with dive-plane front wings. It was
probably the best F2 March ever produced but came up against a superb effort by Toleman.
Lead driver Teo Fabi gave maximum effort but ended up third in the championship in his BMW powered car,
following Brian Henton and Derek Warwick in their Tolemann-Harts.
The March book indicates that the 802 uses the same tub and some bodywork (not the nose) as the 792.
