Description:

This is an extremely original 1969 Lotus 61, all serial numbers are correct and verified by the Lotus Formula Ford Registry. The original owner of this Lotus campaigned the car in the Bulova Formula Ford series in Canada in 1969 and 1970. At the end of the 1970 season it was purchased by the second owner with the intention of running the next season of the same series. This owner wasn’t successful in obtaining a competition license, for a number of the usual reasons, and the car sat in storage for 40 years until the third owner purchased it after hearing stories about the car. The third owner spent considerable time, effort and money restoring the car with the primary goal of preserving authenticity rather than building a competitive car for the current racing environment. He completely disassembled the car, rebuilt or refurbished the parts that were serviceable, had all the appropriate parts re-plated in original nickel finish, replaced fasteners and bushings, and had the motor and Hewland transmission rebuilt. There are original receipts documenting all of the work. The engine was rebuilt by Brit West Motorsport in Ontario, Canada. Have receipts documenting all the parts replaced and work performed. I purchased the car at this point with the goal of finishing and using primarily for display and the occasional track day. I refinished the body work and installed a few other parts. Other than that, the car has sat in my garage. There are a number of original parts that still remain with the car: 1. Steering wheel 2. Hewland gearbox (rebuilt by Hewland) 3. Holbay valve cover 4. Holbay oil pump (rebuilt) 5. Dry sump oil pump (rebuilt) 6. Header 7. Oil canister 8. Oil cooler 9. Radiator with Schrek tag 10. Rebuilt original shocks 11. Weber carb 12. Smith gauges (rebuilt) 13. Seat (certainly wouldn’t use but interesting) 14. Three sets of period steel wheels that came with the car There are a number of projects to complete in order to make the car track ready: 1. Plumbing 2. Electrical wiring 3. Verify all nuts and bolts installed and set to correct torque specification 4. Have proper seat installed specific to driver Please let me know if you have any questions. Thank you.
