Yes this can be done. Use the 711m crank, rods and 83.5mm pistons to give 1700 cc. with 1/4 of deck height. normal chain length....
Various combinations of cc availiable depending on stroke (crank used) and piston dia.
QED in uk has been doing this for years.
I'm building a 1700cc using the 711m block for an elan.
