I don't think I'd try it. IIRC, you'd have to cut about a 1/2" off the 711M block and I think it would weaken the block substantially. Surely you can find someone willing to trade a 701 block for a 711.
There are also versions of the 711M block to the same height as the old 105E block, differentiated by the sufix AA or BA. If Ford condoned what you are proposing, they'd have just made the tall 711 block and then cut them down to make the other two shorter versions.
