Description

This uniqe car is completly restored 1997. New bodywork, new engine (109.6 bhp), restored Hewland, aluminium radiator, chromed suspension parts, new tank etc. The engine is probuilt and has only 2 races.

History

This car raced in UK until 1982. The car was storage until 1996 when the current owner bought it. This car is very unique. In the end of 75 Van Diemen invested heavily in the bankrupt GRD. In 76 the bottom fell out from Van Diemen. The RF76 tested well, but very little else went right. When works driver Derek Daly left for Hawke RF76 sales plummeted. Just a few RF76s were made. The car is, in fact, a very competent chassis, being the last year of production of the innaugural 1973 Van Diemen design which was heavily based on the Lotus Type 69. It has been rumored that the RF73-76 was, in fact, already on the drawing boards at Lotus as the successor to the Type 69 and that the design was appropriated by Van Diemen along with former Lotus Components and GRD designer Dave Baldwin. It has even been said that the RF73-76 chassis were built by Arch Motors on the Type 69 jig.
