Description
This car has been extensively modified and is currently fitted with a non-original Porsche Type 4 engine
which was fitted for use on the hills, where it has been twice champion. It ran US Pro series with a
twincam in period and was originally an F100 so restoration possibilities are numerous. The SVRA would
permit it to run a 1300 twincam.
With RP-4's
selling in the $65-75,000 range this car offers the room to purchase and restore to original or run it
just the way it is.
Last run in 1991, car needs thorough going over before it hits the
track in it's current configuration.
History
Sold new to Firestone in England as a roller for their display car for their sponsorship of the F100 series.
Bob King repurchased the car and sold it to Bill Scott for Bob Wesschler who ran the car at the World
Manufacturer's Championship in 1972. Bob Weschler said "the car was fitted with the engine from Skip Barbers
Formula B". A copy of the original 1972 program comes with the car. Wrecked at Pocono in '72'; repaired and
fitted with RP-17 body ( very similar to RP-4 but somewhat more aerodynamic.) RP-4 bodys are still available
from Royale distributor. Dennis Frick and Don Deitrich purchased the car in 1974 without engine and trans.
Frick purchased the present Hewland from Tom Miller and fitted the car with a Type 4 engine. The rear of
the car was re-engineered to accept the new engine. Suspension was redesigned by Dave Bennet. The car was
raced in the mid to late 70's in Pennsylvania hillclimbs where it was 2 time champion. The rollbar has
hillclimb association number stamped. David Lavertue, Eric Wagner, and Jerry Bensinger also were previous
owners.
