This car, Reynard 89D Formula 3000, chassis number 019, was campaigned by the Middlebridge Racing Team of Milton Keynes, England. Its driver was Mark Blundell, Team Manager Mick Ralph, with a No. 1 Mechanic of Alan Yeates and No. 2 Mechanic of Mark Hallam. The sponsor of the car was Cadbury’s Chocolate.
Of the ten scheduled F3000 races in 1989 the car was entered in nine. The June 14 event at Jerez, Spain, was missed (reason unknown.) The team placed 11th in the Championship with a total of 8 points scored. Complete season record is available.
The car was leased by Reynard to Middlebridge Racing for the 1989 season. At the end of the season the car was sold by Reynard to the team. (All invoices and receipts available.)
The car ran the 1989 season with a Cosworth DVF engine which was removed by the team at the end of the season. From the end of 1989 to the end of 1995 the car was used as a static display for the team. Early in 1996 the car was sold to Mr. Peter Griffiths. He installed an Engine Developments (Judd) CV engine built by John Beattie. The engine is an ex-Lotus Judd CV number 030 which was purchased from Classic Team Lotus by Mason Stringer Racing and passed on to Mr. Griffiths.
From 1996 to 2000 the car was active in Sprint races in England. These consist of single car activities at established road courses involving a standing start to a flying finish. It is estimated that an entire year of Sprinting consists of approximately 150 total miles driven. Therefore, the estimation of the mileage on this chassis after rebuild in 1996 is 750 miles total. The car has seen excellent preparation and maintenance, Mr. Griffiths being a Maintenance Manager and Supervisor for British Airways. The engine has done 150 miles since rebuild.
