1979 Ralt RT-2 Formula Atlantic

Description The car was purchased by the current owner in 1985 and converted to Formula Atlantic specs with a Ford Cosworth BDA engine for use in the East Coast Atlantic Racing (ECAR) series, but never raced. In 1997-98 the chassis, engine, gearbox, and drivetrain were completely restored by a shop in Indianapolis. The car was moved to Missouri at the begining of December.

History

This car is one of three RT-2s built by Ralt Cars in 1979, it was raced in 1979 FIA Formula 2 Championship by Rad Dougall and Brian Henton. It was sold to Pete Lovely, converted to CanAm (under 2 liter class) specs and raced to the class championship by Gary Gove in 1980. The car was then sold to Jim Trueman and repeated at CanAm U2L class champion by Trueman in 1981. It was then sold to Eddie Wachs, who also purchased two near identical Toleman TG 280 chassis and raced infrequently (usually as a backup car) in U2L CanAm 1983-84.

Engine

• Cosworth 1.6 Liter BDA rebuilt by LP Racing
• zero time since rebuild
• motor is complete with Weber side draft carbs, multiplate clutch, and exhaust.

Fuel System

• original collector and main tank, fuel cell rubber and foam replaced, date uncertain.
• new fuel pumps and all new lines installed in 1985.

Oil/Water System

• sidepod mounted water and oil coolers

Electrical System

• Opus/Lucas ignition system, mechanical tach and dash instruments, battery dates from 1985.
• no alternator or data logging equipment.

Gearbox

• Hewland FT200, complete R&R 1998

Final Drive

• Hewland in unit with gearbox

Body

• fiberglass, original sliding skirts replaced with marine hardwood sideplanks and fixed aluminum/nylatron rub blocks.
• currently painted dark blue and white with epoxy enamel paint, good condition.
