Ralt Formula automobiles were built with the original intention to compete in the European Formula 2 and Formula 3 series during the 1970s and 80s. The RT-2 was designed by the team of Ron Tauranac and Rory Byrne, it was built for the Toleman Team.
Powered by the Hart 2-liter 420_R engine, the cars ran in 1979 under the Ralt RT-2 name, and later under the Toleman TG280 name. Success was acheived for the RT-2 carrying Brian Henton to 2nd place in the F2 Championship in 1979. Rad Dongall and Derick Warwick also drove Rt-2's during the 1979 campaign.
This particular car Ralt RT-2 #278 was brought to the U.S. in 1996, and is actively raced in "Formula 70" series races by its present owner.
