Porsche 964RSR (replica) built in 1993 by one of Germany’s specialist for Porsche endurance race cars – Wolfgang Destree from Wiesbaden. Destree bought 2 new 964 Clubsport/RSR chassis from Porsche Motorsport for the Race Team to compete in the VLN endurance races on the Nurburgring. Destree used one as his Team’s race car and the second as a spare in order to give guests/sponsors passenger rides. The car offered for sale here was the spare car (which initially had a 3.6 Cup engine fitted). The car was sold in 1999 to a private collector who sold the 3.6 cup engine and eventually fitted the current proper 3.8 RSR engine. The owner never raced it, but just took part in some Porsche Club track days and some RMA events. In 2004 I bought the car from Tom Schmitz (H.S. Automobile) in Germany. The car has since been raced in both Class 2 and Class 3 in the Porsche Open series with tremendous, consistent success – Class 2 with slicks and large rear spoiler achieving many podiums against much more powerful GT3’s (see lap times), and in Class 3 with Pilot Sport Cup tyres, standard RSR rear spoiler (achieving 9 wins from 10 races in 2008). This owner put the proper 3.8RSR engine in the car and used it for some Porsche track days until 2003. I bought the car in April 2004. In the UK we have a Porsche race series for all types of Porsche race cars (Porsche Open series) - 'Open' means it is open for all Porsche race cars. This series is not a championship, there are no points to score only a trophy for the first 3 in each class and is raced by amatuer/gentleman racers for fun only, it is not for serious racers. This is the only series I have raced the car in. Whilst I have owned this car I have always raced other cars more seriously. So my car has only been raced for fun really as it is not been entered into any championship. In 2004 I raced in the British GT Championship in a GT3, so I only raced the RSR about 4 times in this year. From 2005-2007 I raced a BMW GTR in Britcar and Dutch Supercar Championships (2007 champion). So the RSR was only raced 3 or 4 times in 2005-2006 and once in 2007 as I was too busy racing the other cars more seriously. (the RSR has only been raced for a bit of fun) In 2007 I had the engine refreshed with a top end overhaul. The engine builder said that the engine actually didn’t require it because when he took it apart he could see that it was all fine. But I prefer to know that everything is ok with the car. In 2008 I did 10 races. As you can see from the advert I had 10 pole positions (in class), 10 fastest laps and 9 wins. There was not much competition in this class and I would only drive the car 90% - there was no need to put additional stress on the car as I was usually winning by 40-50s. So you can see from this that the car has had an easy life and that is why the car looks so good!
