Description
Spec Racer is the most popular club racing class in the SCCA. Originally
known as Sports Renault the class has switched from the original Renault powerplant
and driveline to the current Ford unit, with appropriate updates. A true spec class
with sealed engines and fixed gear ratios the class has been the province of epic
drafting battles and huge swarms of paint swapping SR's and now SRF's. Endowed with a stount chassis designed to protect the driver from side impact
and a very rearward and increasingly hefty power unit, the cars feature a relatively
high polar moment, contributing to their nickname of "spin racers".
This car was converted to Ford specification in 1995. At that time the
car was completely disassembled, the chassis repaired and powdercoated, and all
components completely gone through. The car has since done only 5 weekends but has
recieved all updates. The car is the only customer car of a Divisional champion
in the class and has been privately owned and is not a rental car. The car is one
of the few to have the approved Aluminum Racing Products (ARP) seat, a valuable
crash protection asset.
