DescriptionThis was one of the Emeryson works cars. It was based on their Formula Junior design but with uprated chassis, brakes and wheels to match the larger Formula 1 engine and gearbox. This car was always fitted with a Coventry Climax engine. The works Emerysons were run by Equipe Nationale Belge (E.N.B.) who also ran with 1500 cc Maserati engines. The cars were constructed by Paul Emery who built Formula 1 cars to every post war GP formula from the 1940's 4-1/2 litre up to the late 1960's 3 litre. Despite being acknowledged as a great engineer, as with most privateer F1 teams, a lack of adequate finances usually prevented the cars from showing their true form. This is the only known surviving Emeryson F1 car. It has been completely restored and raced successfully since. This car was track tested by Motor Racing magazine in September 1961. |
