The car was built by long time Chicago area Trans Am privateer Paul DePirro for the 1985 Trans Am season; the car was originally built with Camaro bodywork. The cars first race was at the Firebird Trans Am race on April 19, 1985 (this is when the original logbook #85-518 was issued) and was raced in 6 Trans Am races that year (Firebird, Detroit, Mid Ohio, Brainard, Road America & St. Louis). I have the original log book with all entries recorded. Despite only racing in 6 events, Paul still ended up finishing 13th in points for the 1985 season. Paul entered the car in one IMSA GT race at Road America in 1986 and then sold the car to Raymond Irwin (former owner of Blackhawk Farms Raceway and current owner of Heartland Park Topeka). Raymond club raced the car through 1990 when he converted the Camaro bodywork to Oldsmobile to take advantage of factory contingency money being offered in IMSA. The car was entered in the 1991 Daytona 24 Hour race with Boris Said, Lou Gigliotti, P.D. Cunningham, Roger Schramm and Mike Nolan driving. Competeing against the best factory teams, Boris qualified the car 3rd in GTO and they ended up finishing the race (an accomplishment in itself for a privateer entry) 7th in class. After Daytona Boris used the car to qualify for the Valvoline Runoffs in GT1 (I have the logbook with 2 race entries signed by Boris). Raymond later sold the car and it passed through several club racers before he re-purchased the car to use as a rental at his Auto Concepts shop at Blackhawk Farms. It was at this time the car was entered in the two 2006 Trans Am races at Heartland Park. I purchased the car in 2007 and completed a cosmetic restoration back to its 1991 Daytona livery. I have the 5 original SCCA logbooks plus a SVRA vintage logbook. The car still has its original Frings chassis and according to Paul DePirro it is essentially the same car he built, other than the Oldsmobile bodywork. Paul was at Blackhawk Farms when I picked up the car and provided me with much of the early history. The car has a strong Chevy 358", Jerico 4 speed and Winters quick change rear end. There are newer Alcon brakes on all four corners and the shocks are Penske 3 way, rebuilt one race ago. All the interior tin work is original to the car and it even still has the 1991 vintage IMSA electrical cutoff decal. All grahpics are correct for the 1991 race including NOS "Sun Bank 24 Hours" decals sourced for the restoration. The car has only been raced once since the restoration (SVRA race at VIR in 2008) and was recently prepped for a 2011 race which I was not able to attend. The car is completely race ready and turn key. The Goodyear slicks have only 2 sessions on them. The car comes with 2 additional sets of Bogart wheels (same as the ones in the pictures) one with older slicks and the other with very old (unusable) rain tires. There are also a set of axles, three sets of springs, a set of Carrera coil over shocks (removed for the new Penskes) plus other misc. spares. The first two photos show the car at VIR in 2008 followed by a photo from the 1991 Daytona race. The remaining photos show the car in various stages during its restoration.
