1969 Ghia body was all I had. I took off pan, grabbed the id # and started with a plan to create a sleeper fun car to drive. Body mods include front and rear spoilers, flared fenders, cowl induction on hood which opens in rear, removeable rear side glass, filling rear deck vent holes, fabricating complete dash, cutting in VW bug headlites. Donor car for Porsche stuff was an 1986 944. From the donor I took the complete running gear, dash, seats, and floor. I built a 2x2 1/4 wall tubing frame to mount trans axle, motor and front suspension. 10 gallon VW gas tank was installed behind seat and out of sight. Front struts were not an option so I bolted in a Toyota truck front clip that gave me a match for brake cyclinder size and disc brakes all around. I fabricated a roll bar of sorts should it end up on it's top. 5 point harness is there as well. A radio and power antenna are the only amenities. This car is an amazing attention getter and drives like a lighter weight 944, it weighs 2500lb. with 1300 in the front. If anyone wanted to play with this car beyond the street and some parking lots I can not vouch for anything. I built the car because it needed something other than a Cevy V-8. Head was taken off to inspect top end and oil pan removed for same. Motor had 106000 miles and cked out as A-OK. Car now has 108,000 miles. The dash has all the indicaters working that you need to drive-speedo, tach, temp., fuel, oil, voltage. Lights also come on for evening display. I have accelerated this car to 100mph on several on ramps before backing off. I have also driven to Los Angeles from San Diego at sustained speeds of 80-85 as that is what takes to keep up. Car has never been in any rain so I am not sure how waterproof things may be as it was built in a climate where the windows are always down. Send trusted friend to ck out car or come yourself.
