This 1999 Riley Scott, chasis number 98-014 was the original BMW racecar which competed in the ISRS series in Europe in 1998 and was redesigned to compete in the inagural 1999 ALMS Series, by team owner Gabriel Rafanelli. The car was designed with an open checkbook, including aero dynamical redesign in the Audi windtunnel and new engine development by John Judd. This was Judd's first installation into a WSC sportscar. The car has fabulous international and domestic racing history, including LeMans, Sebring, Nurburgring, Laguna Seca, along with it's famous Road Atlanta win. Drivers included Mimmo Schiattarella, Eric van de Poele, Erik Commas, and Bill Auberlen. In 2009, the car was purchased from Rafanelli and after 8 years was returned to the United States. The car was purchased along with the entire team support spares and tooling. Essentially an entire 40 foot ocean container complete with gearboxes, 30 plus wheels, suspension, bodywork, carbon and steel brakes, special castings, and original airline travel cases! Almost enough spares to build a spare car. All original documentation is included, complete with team documents, original blueprints, schematics, set-up sheets, correspondance letters, video recordings, models, magazine articles, photographs and receipts. The car has undergone a 10 month race restoration and needs nothing. It is completely race ready. Paint is fresh and competely clear tape protected. All systems have been update by Judd, including a new 2D dash and EFI ECU with data gathering.


Originally campaigned in 1998 as the factory BMW- Rafanelli to run the ISRS series, including 24 hours of LeMans. The car was originally constructed with the 4.0 liter BMW engine. Being underpowered this car set the stage for BMW to introduce their LMR the very next year. In 1999, Rafanelli headed to compete in the inagural season of the American LeMans Series as BMW competed with their new BMW-LMR. Needing a new engine supplier Rafanelli looked to John Judd for the engine program (this is the first Judd powered LMP car created) and Audi to enhance it's aero potential. Judd Power developed a 4.0 liter endurance motor based upon their V-10 3.5 lite formula one engine. While the engine was considered a fully stressed member, Rafanelli chose to further enhance the stiffness of the chassis by redesigning the engine compartment struts and geargbox mounts. With the help of the Audi windtunnel, the new body work was developed with an enhanced cooling ducts and lemans long-tail type rear cowl. The new Judd powered Riley's debute was at the 12 Hours of Sebring in 1999. It qualified second next to BMW LMR on the pole. The rivalry was apparent. While qualifying effort was great, the cars cast oil cross over tube was a weak link and the car retired. On it's second outing at Road Atlanta the car was now deemed controversial. While qualifying on the pole, it was deemed illegal by being too long by 10cm, and sent to start the race from last place. Starting from 34 position the car blisted over the next four hours to win the race (a copy of the TV coverage is included). The car competed in the remainder of the 1999 season, including Las Vegas, Laguna Seca, Sebring, Sears Point, and Portland. The car was retired after the 1999 season and replaced by Rafanelli in favor of the new carbon fiber Lola B2K/10. The Judd powerplant was retained for its weight savings, reliability, and power. The Rafanelli Riley was returned to europe and remained in Rafanelli's collection until 2007. In 2007, the current owner imported the car from Nice, France along with all the team support spares, tools, and airline transport crates. Judd Power was contracted to supply a new 4.0 liter V-10 complete with new EFI ECU and integrated 2D dash and data collection, replacing the Magnetti Marelli unit. The car under went a complete professional race restoration by Chuck Buckman Motorsports in Phoneix, AZ. Since its completion, the car has approximately 2 hours of test time and development.
