Description
This lovely historic Junior is in concours to very good condition, having taken a 3rd in class at Pebble Beach. Bruce Trennery confirms $200,000+ in restoration costs. It is undoubtedly the best example of its kind in the world. Fully restored several years ago by DK Engineering, it has only 6 races or so since restoration. It has had no accidents since restoration. The paint and engine were freshened this year. The restoration was complete from bare chassis up with much more than the asking price spent.
The car is race ready.
History
Vittorio Stanguellini developed this Formula Junior for his Formula Corsa car and was considered the most successful design of the early years. Designed by Ing. Massimino and tested by Fangio at the Modena circuit a lot was expected from this design. The cars dominated European Junior racing throughout 1958 and 1959. Roberto Lippi captured the Italian championship driving a Stanguellini in 1958 and Cammarota did likewise in 1959. Michael May won the international championship in 1959 also driving a Stanguellini. About 150 Stanguellinis were constructed. This was the 1958 French National Team Car. It won the French Championship and was driven by "ELDE". All gauge faceplates are in French. It was raced by the French Team through 1960.
The car was imported into the United States in 1989 by New England Classics. The history between that time and the car's winning at the Monterey Historics is not known by the current owner. After winning the Historics on Saturday, the car was invited to attend Pebble Beach the next day. With no show prep other than a quick wipe down and wax, this car took 3rd place in the highly competitive Vintage Race Car Class. The car has been invited to all major historic events including the Monaco Historic Races. It is positively the least expensive way to vintage race with multi-million dollar cars.
