Description

The Tyrrell 011 has been raced in this years FIA Thoroughbred Grand Prix (TGP) championship, where the model has proved to be a front runner (one pole and one victory for the sister car, chassis number 7). If you want to have a competitive car and not spend the money for a Williams FW 007, this is the one to have.

The car can be fitted in its 1982 (current status) as a ground effect car or in its 1983 flat bottom configuration. Thus it can be raced either in FIA TGP class C or in the new class D for flat bottom cars, which was announced to be introduced for the 2002 season. In this season, the car has been raced in both configurations.

The engine is a powerfull Cosworth DFY engine with high torque. This engine has been developed as a derivative from the classic Cosworth DFV engine by Mario Illien (ILMOR) as his first project during his time at Cosworth. It is the latest stage engine, which Cosworth set against the turbo engines.

It is one of the rare cars, which has been built according to the high level 1983 FIA safety regulations, thus being one of the safest TGP F1 cars you can have.

The car is race ready and crack tested until the end of 2002. It will come with a rebuilt engine.

History

The history of the Tyrrell 011-4 is probably the most interesting and valuable amongst the TGP cars. This car has won the 1983 US-East Grand Prix in Detroit, driven by Michele Alboreto, who died in 2001 during a test session for AUDI´s Le Mans effort. It is the last car to win a Grand Prix for Tyrrell, it has been the last car to win Grand Prix with a normally aspirated engine and it is the car to win a Grand Prix with a Cosworth DFV engine (actually it was the DFY stage).

After it had to give way to the newer Tyrrell 012 at the Grand Prix in Austria 1983 and before it went into the FIA TGP championship, it was used by its US-sponsor only for display and never raced.

Recent Competition History

The car has been raced at several events in the 2001 FIA Thoroughbred Grand Prix Championship with an overall sixth as a best result.
