Description

Until recently active as a French hillclimb car, this 1973 works F2 March has a continuous and fascinating history. Currently fitted with later (77B?) bodywork, it is in very good condition and literally just requires an engine to be runnable. The tub is in very good condition, requiring at most a few rivets. Although lacking a chassis tag the car has the original importation documents and a continuous verifiable history.

History

This car was originally part of the 1973 March works team and in that year was driven by Beltoise, Stuck, Coulon, and Jarrier. March totally dominated F2 that year, having an exclusive on the best BMW engines. Jarrier ended series Champion, winning seven of the 14 rounds, with two of his victories coming in this car. In the 1973 season the car carried the chassis number 732/10. A color photo of one of the works 732s, driven by Jarrier, appears on page 85 of "The Story of March" by Mike Lawrence. The works cars ran in the distinctive deep red STP colors.

At the end of the season the car was sold to Brian Lewis Racing, still in it's original front rad configuration. Lewis had March update the car to 1974 works spec with side rads. The car was renumbered by March to 742/10B, 742/10 having already been issued. The car was rented to Vittorio Brambilla in the 1974 season.

At the end of 74 the car was sold to Roger Heavens and was also driven by DeCastro, being entered as 742/10B. The car was then sold to France for hillclimbing, with the chassis number recorded as 74210b. (lower case "b"). When the French logbook was issued the car become 742/106, which it has been known as since, the "b" being transposed to a "6".
