Description
This car is an ex lightweight F3000 that has been built and sorted for autocross (Sprint UK). The car could also be used for hillclimbs or ]reverted back to a track car. The engine and chassis are built for reliability and are considered bulletproof. The car currently has high down force wing apckage mounted but, the owenr has all wings to convert back to track car. The car has fresh Hoosier R 25's on car, and also includes a mounted set of fresh R 33's and mounted set of unused rains. The sale also includes a vast spares list and low boy open trailer with fresh tires. The best possible parts were used in the development of this car and it is most definitely ready to compete. the only flaws would be minor paint chip damage on lower outboard side of side pods.
History
The car was built for Spirit Racing for the 1988 European season and was driven by Steve Kempton for one race and then sidelined as a spare. The car was received in California in kit form with new parts to be converted to an autocross car by ex-Solo II National Champion Dan Cole & Ted James. The tub was shortened by British Aerospace adnG.E.C. prior to shipment and the track was narrowed upon build up. The car now has a 95" wheelbase and is 68" wide sidewall to sidewall. Origianl designer Andy Brown and Gordon Coppuck were instrumental in development by answering lots of questions.
The 88B is smaller, stronger, and lighter than the previous 87 F3000/indy lites cars. It was the first March car designed by computer. Designed by Andy Brown. The engineers for the season were Richard Divila, Gordon Coppuck, and Ralph Bellamy. The car went to the wind tunnel with that team. The 88B's competed in both the European and Japanese 1988 F3000 series against Reynard, Lola, Dellara, Ralt and Mooncraft. Engines were Judd, Mugen or Cosworth 3.0L V-8's. Martini had his 88b in 2nd place in the European series before he left to take his F1 ride.
Recent Competition History
Autocross only, California & Tennessee. The total package has only 8.5 hours of trouble free running since forst Autocross in late 1992. Many wins in B-Mod class. All parts and hardware other than tub & uprights were new.
