1970 Lotus 61M Formula Ford
Serial Number: 61/FF/75
I bought this car early this year with the intention of going vintage racing. The car had been in storage since 2001, but it was a running car when it was parked. I disassembled the car and spent several months checking, repairing, replacing, refinishing, and detailing it to the level that met my standards for racing preparation. I spent 30 years maintaining and driving formula cars in SCCA competition, so I knew what I was doing. As the car neared completion, I began the process of regaining my competition license. I had "retired" in 2009. To make a long story short, I was unable to pass the physical and could not obtain a license. So, now I have this great car and can't race it. My loss is your gain.
The pictures will give you some idea of how nice the car is. We took it out to do some testing and it runs and drives great. It's ready to go racing! I would have been proud to race this car.
I have SCCA log books from March of 1972 on. The log books show a total of 69 races with the last entry in 2001. A list of car features follows:
Chassis is the original and painted British Racing Green
Body is correct "wedge" design with original engine cover. It's in very good shape and the paint is good.
Engine was rebuilt by Cricket Farm (Butler). Previous owner said 7 races since rebuild.
Hewland Mk6 transaxle rebuilt and blueprinted by Taylor Race Engineering. Previous owner said 7 races since rebuild.
New Fuel Safe fuel cell
New Simpson harness dated July 2014
New brake and clutch master cylinders
New wheel bearings
Calipers rebuilt with new pads
New donuts (axle joints)
Custom Ron Davis aluminum radiator (shows some battle scars, but was pressure tested and cools great)
Armstrong adjustable shocks
New plugs, points, condenser, cap, wires, and K&N air filter
A set of correct steel wheels with Dunlop vintage tires mounted (will need fresh tires at first event)
A set of Minilite alloy wheels with Goodyear slicks mounted (will need fresh tires at first event)
Twelve extra gear sets in a wooden case
I will deliver the car and spares free-of-charge to any location within a 500-mile radius of Atlanta, GA. The buyer will arrange and pay for shipping to a location outside of that radius. If any crating or other special treatment is required, we will negotiate that cost and payment will be required in advance for me to provide such services.
