Description
This Merkur was built by Bob Holcombe of MotorSport Design (MODE, Inc) sometime in the mid-eighties. The race history and ownership chain has been difficult to determine but Brian Devries of Jade Pig Racing was a past owner and used the Merkur on a limited basis. This a very well designed and purposed built race car that would have competed in the IMSA GTU series. The chassis is based on a Roush design that was used in the Championship Trans Am cars raced by Scott Pruett. Powered by a normally aspirated 2.0 liter Cosworth, mated to a Saenz transmission and linked to a Ford 9 inch rear end. The full tube frame is covered by a completely removable fiberglass body

Little is know about the competition history of this race car. It was built by Bob Holcombe of MotorSport Design (MODE, Inc.) located in Scottsdale, Arizona. UPDATE: A very kind gentleman has given some further details on the Merkur. It was driven in the early 90's by Troy Rowland Muller who worked for Performance Racing Industry magazine. The car was campaigned by Wizard Racing with MCFS sponsorship and hopefully some further information can be found through these sources.
