Description
This car was built by Shipman Motorsport from a fully restored bare chassis and a new body made from the original Turner moulds. No expense whatever was spared in making this the best FIA-spec Turner anywhere in the world. All the components were either new or fully overhauled and the standard of presentation reflects all the parts and attention to detail that you cannot see. Turners were homologated with a number of different engines and the 1650cc Ford option was a period attempt to move the car out of a class where it had to compete with the Lotus Elans. It was also homologated at the very low weight of 1118lbs, which is over 100lbs lighter than the Elan's homologated weight. Unfortunately, the hardtop which is fitted for GT events and the bigger fuel tank, plus some mandatory safety equipment like a proper roll cage, means it is not possible safely to go that low. In the specification seen in the pictures, this one weighs about 1300lbs dry, and 1365lbs ready to race but without the driver. The car has competed in FIA GT events but the team's plans have now changed. The decision has been made to concentrate on historic Sports prototypes and the Turner is now surplus to requirements.
History
Built from bare components in 2003, it has taken some time to sort out the handling and FIA-mandated items like the wet sump lubrication. This is now done and the car needs to be raced by someone who will utilise the potential that has been created.
