Description
Triumph TR4A vintage racer. Little is known about the history of this car but it is known to have been raced extensively throughout the N.E. in the 60's and early 70's based in Connecticut and maintained by Group 44. Retired until the late 90'S when racer Bob Kilpatrick found and resurrected it. The car was then actively raced thru 2002. Changed hands in 2004 to a Colorado owner who never did use it. Current owner purchased it in 2008 and brought it to New Mexico. Since then it has been freshened-up to bring it to it's current turn-key, ready to race condition. Only run 2 events since. Owner simply has too many race cars and the TR is not getting enough use - therefor it's up for sale. Of note is the fact that this is a SOLID AXLE TR4A. In the 3 years the 4A was in production, it is estimated that something less than 25% of them were ordered with the solid axle option which was only available in the North American market - an obscure distinction for sure but try to find another one! Very well set-up, solid and reliable. I can not document it but it is said that the car has been a dedicated racer since new. There is not even a hint of rust or rust repair. Does not look to have ever taken a major hit and gaps and fit are very good. Full 6pt. welded cage with side bars. Fully fused electrical system with very nice custom wiring harness and functional charging system. On-board halon fire system with under-hood and driver nozzles. Current 5pt. harness for driver - lap belt only for passenger. Removable steering wheel, Huge aluminum radiator with ducting and electric fan. Accu-Sump, baffled oil pan, oil cooler, braided lines and spin-on filter. Mallory distributor with electronic ignition. Try-Y header with EGT. and 2 1/4" exhaust to free- flow "muffler". Competition prepped S.U.'s by Joe Cuerto. Fresh head with new springs, competition valve grind, cc'd chambers [10.6:1 compression] alloy retainers and beautiful porting. The master cylinders have been re-located thru the firewall [as opposed to the original reverse linkage mounted on top of the box] with a custom pedal cluster and TR6 brake master with vacuum assist. With the alfin drums and drilled rotors it has GREAT brakes. Suspension specs are unknown other than approx. -2 degrees of front camber, 15/16ths front bar with 3/4 rear bar. I am not the owner but simply brokering the car for a friend/customer/Friend of Triumph. Some of you might recognize my TR4 racecar, "The Plum Pi" in the last picture. Compared to mine, this car has a more "developed" feel. Very compliant suspension but no need for it to be any stiffer. Wonderful brakes, plenty of power and the delightful over-drive. I would like to think my car is a bit faster but it's hard to say by the "seat of the pants" and the two cars have never run against each other. If not sold by the end of August, you just might see the car at this year's Kastner Cup race in Portland. Interesting trades considered. I can arrange shipping anywhere worldwide. Car is located 20 minutes from Albuquerque International Airport.
