Description
Ritchie Ginther’s shop built this car in 1970 for Bill Cuddy to race in SCCA C Production. Bill raced it from 1970-72, Wolfgang Maike from 1973-74, “Fast” Freddy Baker in 1975-76 and Earl Roe from 1977-81. Earl finished 8th at the 1980 Road Atlanta SCCA Runoffs. All owners have personally verified this history providing pictures, race results and log books. Alan Johnson also drove the car once at Laguna Seca in 1971. A signed picture of him in the car is part of the documentation. Extensive documentation is included with the car. The current configuration is as raced from 1982-87 in IMSA GTU by privateers Earl Roe and Tim Selby. It raced at Sebring, Mid Ohio, Mosport, Watkins Glen, Columbus and Road America with two third places finishes at Road America and a third place at Mosport. The car was retired after the Columbus 500 in 1987. It was restored for vintage racing in 1996. The car has been raced in SVRA, HSR and PCA events since restored. The car was featured in the first 2 Rennsport Reunion programs. It has an FIA Historical Technical Passport and was featured in a Porsche Panorama 2/02 article. The car is currently configured as it last raced in IMSA. Other then replacement and update of safety equipment the suspension, brakes, engine and gearbox are as it last raced. The car is fully race ready with current safety equipment and mechanicals. There are additional spares that can be negotiated as part of the price including an additional 1 and 1/2 sets of Jongbloed wheels with mounted slicks and a set of Duralight wheels with mounted rains. Partial trades considered for 911 2.5 ST clone, 2.7 RS clone or 3.0. This car probably has one of the longest documented racing history of any original 914-6. The car was eligible for the FIA Historic Technical Passport because it competed at Sebring with IMSA.
History
This car was delivered to Ritchie Ginther's shop in 1970 by Bill Cuddy who purchased the car from a Porsche dealer. Bill saw the Allan Johnson and EF Robinson Ginther cars and had him convert his street car to the same specifications. The car went to its first driver's school with Bill at Riverside in 1970. Bill raced it in SCCA on the West Coast for two years. It then went to Wolfgang Maike, Fred Baker and Earl Roe who also raced it in SCCA until 1981. Earl collaborated with another Porsche racer, Tim Selby, to convert the car to IMSA specifications. Earl and Tim raced it in IMSA from 1982 until 1987 when it was retired. Documentation with the car includes SCCA race results, logbooks, IMSA race results and many pictures of the car as raced by all owners. Some of these pictures are included in this listing. SVRA chose to use pictures of this car to document what a 914-6 should look like with the Ginther winds screen and the proper flares.
