Description
This car was built as the prototype "test mule" to develop the platform for the 3 white cars that ran the 1968 Shell 4000 Rally. All 4 cars were built as race cars at the factory in Brampton Ontario under the supervision of Quality Control Manager Ernie Regehr. Referred to as the "blue" car or "old blue", this one received an extensive list of options at the factory. Engine, drivetrain, suspension, brakes, electrics all were upgraded on the initial build before testing began. Things like springs, tires and mufflers were all experimented with during testing, while the original choices in engine/transmission etc., proved strong & very reliable. "Old Blue" was used as the chase car in the rally proper, but no parts were robbed, with all 3 white cars finishing the Calgary to Halifax marathon without major repairs, and in 2nd, 3rd & 5th place overall! Post rally history saw the cars sold off, with this one remaining in Ontario to be entered in several rallys & club raced at Mosport. In the twilight of its career, it became a tow vehicle to pull what else, another race car. Here's your chance to own an actual factory built AMC competition car.
