Description
Total ground-up restoration/rebuild of a 1968 Austin Mini Cooper 998 MKII (Titled as a 1962 Austin Mini). Owned for the last 16 years, restored in 1999. Restored with mostly new parts. The following were completed during the rebuild/restoration: • All rusty body panels have been replaced, including nose panel, fenders, front floor pans, and rockers. Shell was blasted; epoxy primer/sealer applied and painted BMC colors Maroon “B” with an Old English White roof. Wood and Pickett flares. New stainless steel bumpers and grille. A new wiring harness, headlamps, parking lamps, taillamps, and heater were installed. • Engine & Drivetrain - The rebuilt engine is a very durable 1275 cc A+ (from an MG Metro Turbo w/o turbo) coupled to a rebuilt rod-change transmission w/3.44 final drive. New parts include the following: Kent 276 cam, 1 ¾" SU carb w/ K & N filter and performance intake manifold, Vernier adjustable timing sprocket, Aldon distributor, alternator, upgraded radiator, LCB header w/Maniflow free-flow exhaust system, cv joints and halfshafts. • Brakes & Suspension – New rubber cones (car was converted from Hydrolastic), adjustable struts, Spax adjustable shocks and polyurethane bushings were installed. The car has rebuilt Cooper S brakes w/servo, new rotors, new Super Minifin rear drums, and new brake lines. New quick-ratio (2.2 turns) steering rack and 6 x 10 Cosmic wheels with 165/70x10 Yokohama A008 tires. • Interior – Cobra seats w/3-point harnesses, new headliner, custom interior wood trim. • The car has been driven approximately 5,000 miles since the restoration. A well-sorted, virtually new, classic Mini Cooper.
