Description

This Lola T330 is now being restored by J&L Fabricating in Puyallup, WA., one of the première race car restoration firms in the USA. It is being offered now so that the new owner has the opportunity to select colors, graphics and any other modifications that may be desired. It will be complete in early 2010. When complete, it will be the ultimate Formula 5000 competitor in every way. The chassis and all components will be virtually new, the engine will be a 500 HP steel 305 now being prepared by Ron Shaver at Shaver Specialties in California. On top of all this, the body will be that of the original Brian Redman car. The car as shown in the photo above was acquired by the present owner in 2008 and had been restored and raced in Texas. Unfortunately, the engine, a 406, was incorrect. The body, while handsome, (shown in the above photo) was also incorrect. The new and correct engine will be installed in November of 2009. The Redman body, miraculously, remains undamaged after nearly 40 years. Built in 1972, HU14, then crimson in color, was sold to Haas Racing in early 1973 and was raced by Brian Redman, who dominated the F5000 world for several years. In these early years HU14 was also driven by Kevin Bartlett and Derek Bell. In October of 1973 the car was sold to Jerry Hansen who won several races late in 1973 through the end of 1975. Hansen, in 1975, painted the car his signature orange and yellow (see photo) and added the rear aluminum deck. In early 1976 the car was sold to Glenn Brown in Kent, Washington who won several races including an SCCA national event on July 11, 1976. Brown subsequently sold the car back to Jerry Hansen in late 1976 and he raced the car through the 1977 season. As a final note in Hansen’s time with the car, he drove it Labor Day weekend, 1977, at Road America in a pro formula race…..and won !! From this point in time and, for many years later, the car disappeared from the radar screen. During this same time, the body became separated from the chassis, likely a result of a conversion to Can Am configuration…not uncommon in that era. At a certain point, it was re-painted white and red (with Dan Gurney’s name on the side, strangely) and graced the walls of “Philly’s” sports bar in the mid-west for nearly 20 years (see photo). In 1999, the Redman body was acquired by Mike Milinac of Chicago, who painfully tracked down the history of the body/vehicle. With all this said, the history is solid and well documented. Glenn Brown and Mike Milinac have confirmed the above lineage and many photographs are on file to support this history. For those competitors in search of the ultimate F5000 machine, look no further.
