Description
Classic circuit racing car, also suitable for tarmac rally and tarmac hillclimbs. Motorsport New Zealand logbooks dating back to 2000. Results history and copies of event programs from 2008 to current. The build process was completed gradually over approximately 5 years, during which the car was being used and tested in competition. After several seasons of regular racing, the car was used sparingly between 2012 and 2018 during which the compression strut kit and adjustable TCA's were fitted, the gearbox was rebuilt, a brand new crown wheel and pinion was fitted, the rear shocks were rebuilt, and the fuel pump + filter + lines were upgraded. In preparation for racing the car regularly again from the start of the NZ 2018 season (September 2018), the entire braking system was overhauled, all fluids changed, and everything thoroughly checked over. The car has completed 3 full race meetings in late 2018 without incident, including the Escort 50th anniversary celebration races in September 2018 at Hampton Downs. The car is well and truly tested and is extremely reliable, very competitive, and plenty of fun to drive. The vehicle maintains all original steel panels, all original glass, genuine Ford RS alloy wheels, a genuine Ford RS 6 dial dash, original steel bumpers front and rear, and most interior trim. It really is a period correct car, the only variations from absolute period correctness are the Type 9 gearbox (period 5 speed gearbox was a ZF), and electronic ignition.
History
The car was New Zealand new, manufactured in 1971 and first registered in 1972. The current owner purchased the car in 1997. Complete competition logbooks containing dates and locations of all events from January 2000 to current. Race results and event programs from 2008 to current. The entire competition history is within the North Island of New Zealand, and includes circuit racing and tarmac hillclimbs.
