Description
Colotti two speed transaxle. After extensive research and correspondence with Marco Colotti, I am unable to say with 100% certainty the vehicle this was used with, But have narrowed it to 1963-64 Lotus 29, Chaparral II,Cooper-Maserati Type 61, Lola MK6, and Ford GT40 all used a very similar T34-T37 units. However, this being a two speed unit was most likely used for Indy. It is cast with Colotti-Francis and G.S.D(Gear Speed Developments) which was used for Lola cars by Eric Broadley and also, for a brief period, by Ford on the GT40s after they had taken over the Lola. A very, very rare and interesting piece of racing history.
History
Colotti Trasmissioni begans in 1958 when Valerio Colotti establishes the "Tec-Mec". This is the result of a five year experience in the technical department both at Ferrari and at Maserati where he projects the differential, the suspensions, the steering gear, the brakes and the chassis for the 250F, F1 world champion in 1957. This is one of his creations.
